Columbus Convention Center

Late this afternoon and evening, our candidate traveled to the semi-annual meeting of the Ohio Elections Officials and the Ohio Democratic Chairpersons Association held at the Columbus Convention Center . This was a very convenient forum for our candidate, in that it's only a few blocks from our office building and campaign headquarters. At least twice a year, Ohio Elections Officials gather around the state of Ohio to discuss current elections issues. This event is usually sponsored by the Ohio Secretary of State and gives the opportunity for Board of Elections members and their directors and assistant directors to spend some time discussing Ohio 's elections issues and to share current information. Since many county chairpersons also come to this event, it is a good time for the Democratic Chairpersons Association to also hold a meeting. Congressman Sherrod Brown, as a former Secretary of State and now candidate for Senator, and our candidate, sponsored a hospitality suite after the day session ended at 5:00 p.m., running until :00 p.m.
When we arrived at 5:00 p.m., the place was packed. It was almost impossible to elbow your way through the crowd and many of the officials were there to say hello to our next Secretary of State. It took our candidate over an hour to get into the front doors since she was constantly met by a steady stream of persons right at the front door. A few of these persons remember our candidate when she was Sherrod Brown's liaison to their offices, so it was like 'old home week.' Between 5:00 and :00, there were breakout sessions from the Ohio Elections Officials Association meetings, which various attendees at the hospitality suite had to attend. Our candidate spoke at the Democratic Chairpersons Association meeting, along with a number of other statewide candidates. This speech was quite well attended since all the statewide candidates made an appearance there, along with many of the congressional candidates. Because their focus was on elections, our candidate spoke just before the gubernatorial candidates. Her speech was very well received, being interrupted by applause many times. In all, it was very inspiring to hear all these great candidates give their spiel, although I've heard many of them in the past. Democrats are truly blessed this time with a plethora of aspiring and worthy candidates.
We then returned to the hospitality suite when we noticed that the Longaberger Company was holding an event for its sales staff nearby. Our candidate's sister is the vice president of sales for the Longaberger Company and we were able to make contact with her. Our candidate was taken around to meet many of the Longaberger sales persons.
