Time may be running out for you to have a say in this fall's hard-fought election.
Tuesday, Oct. 10, is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election, which features state and county candidates and issues.

Who may register?

You, if all of the following apply:

  • You're a U.S. citizen.
  • You're an Ohio resident.
  • You'll be 18 or older by Nov. 7.
  • You're not in jail or prison for a felony conviction.
Who needs to register in order to vote on Nov. 7?
  • You, if any of the following apply:
  • You haven't voted in Ohio in four years.
  • You've changed your name or address without notifying election officials.
  • You've finished a felony sentence without notifying elections officials.
There are a few obscure exceptions to these rules. Contact elections officials or Web sites for more details. You can get a registration form from elections Web sites or almost any public agency, including schools, municipal halls, libraries, motor vehicle bureaus, assistance agencies and, of course, elections boards. A few days after submitting the form, you should get confirmation in the mail. If unsure about your registration status, check with your county board of elections or the Ohio secretary of state's Web site, www.sos.state.oh.us. Point to "voting information," click on "look up your voting information" and scroll down the page. To reach this Plain Dealer reporter: gsegall@plaind.com, 216-999-4187
