The Columbus Dispatch endorses Brunner
“Brunner’s experience gives her the edge for Ohio’s top elections post

For Immediate Release

October 15, 2006 – Columbus, OH – “Her resume includes solid performance on the Franklin County Common Pleas Court, where she developed a court focused on rehabilitating nonviolent drug offenders,” stated the Columbus Dispatch today in its endorsement of Jennifer Brunner for Ohio Secretary of State.

The Columbus Dispatch highlighted Ken Blackwell’s overtly partisanship attitude while maintaining the office, “the next secretary of state needs to be an impartial arbiter of elections. Blackwell’s politicking in 2004 for State Issue 1, the amendment banning gay marriages, and on behalf of President Bush’s re-election gave Democrats an opening to question his neutrality.”

“From the beginning of my campaign I have promoted a platform of free, fair, open and honest elections in Ohio,” said Jennifer Brunner.

“As judge, Brunner was rated favorably by the Columbus Bar Association and she demonstrated the ability to rule in a fair and objective manner, a necessary attribute for secretary of state,” according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Experience is what gives the nod to Jennifer Brunner. The Columbus Dispatch points to Brunner’s service in the Office of Secretary of State and her 13 years of election law experience “giving her a head start in taking over the supervision of Ohio’s elections from current Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell,” according to the Dispatch. “Brunner has the drive and energy to oversee operations in this period of transition.”

“I am particularly honored to have the support from The Columbus Dispatch, my hometown paper,” said Brunner. “I will work hard as Secretary of State so that voters trust Ohio’s most basic democratic process—voting, and I will protect the information of every Ohioan that is maintained by the office and county boards of elections,” said Brunner.
