The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette Endorses Jennifer!
Brunner is what Ohio residents need

JENNIFER Brunner offers the better choice as Ohio's next Secretary of State. Brunner's no-nonsense approach is exactly what Ohio residents need at a time of voter apathy, uncertainty and disenfranchisement. Her opponent, Republican Greg Hartmann, appears to be a decent man with good intentions. But Brunner carries a wealth of experience that will serve her well as the chief watchdog of the state's elections process. Brunner would be the first member of a local board of elections to hold the office. In addition, her experience as the election lawyer to various Democratic statewide candidates could prove beneficial. Hartmann, currently Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, has a bit more management experience. He likely would bring organization and efficiency to the job, both notable assets. However, he lacks the toughness that Brunner, a two-time Common Pleas Court Judge, possesses. This is a challenging job where objectivity must be paramount. This is particularly true given the partisan political landscape in Ohio. We've had claims of election fraud and voters feeling disenfranchised the past two elections. While Brunner alone cannot fix this problem, she certainly can create an atmosphere in which voters believe with certainty the process is free of corruption and political pandering. The difference between the two candidates is clear. Brunner thinks the system is "fractured" and wants to totally repair it, while Hartmann believes it just needs minor massaging. We think Brunner offers voters the better choice largely because of her experience in the courts system and her pledge this job is not a stepping stone. Protecting the integrity of our elections process is crucial. We think Brunner is up to that task.
